I am so excited about this year’s camp! I know that we are going to have a fantastic time and see God move in a mighty way. We are already about half full and it is only April! This year’s theme, “Storming the Gates” comes from Matthew 16:18. Peter had just declared his belief that Jesus was the Son of God and Jesus replied, ”…upon this rock I will build my church and the gates of Hell will not conquer it.” Now think about this for a moment, gates do not move. A gate cannot pick up and go to battle, the battle has to be brought to the gates. That means we are to be “storming the gates”! We are to be on the offensive, and Jesus has already promised us that we win! Instead though, so many times we Christians sit around licking our wounds, dreading the next spiritual battle we will face. Many of us are either draft dodgers or deserters, running and hiding from even the hint of battle. We are so afraid that we might be inconvenienced or embarrassed that we don’t ever even raise our heads out of the trenches, much less storm the field. One popular writer said we have to “see the faces in the flames, and go in after them.”

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking about standing on the street corners yelling at people and hitting them over the head with the Bible. I am talking about be rooted and grounded in our relationship with Christ, knowing our position and power in Him, having His mind and His heart so that in every situation, in every word and deed, we reveal His Love, His Compassion, His Grace, and His Glory to the lost people around us. If we do that, Hell doesn’t stand a chance.
